I've noticed at school that an increasing trend is the pencil-skirt-with-tucked-in-shirt look. It can be quite professionally cute. However, at school, the fashion seems to be to wear uber tight and ridiculously short pencil skirts, which I personally think contradicts the original conservative professional style of the skirt....but that's not my soap-box topic today :) The point is I found some traditional pencil skirts that look flattering to all shapes with just about any type of blouse or sweater without degrading a classic look.

J-Crew can be pretty pricey (according to Esther's pamphlet, my guess is it would be a $$$ though it is well worth it!) however, I'm sure pencil skirts like these can be found at a Ross's or Marshalls or something along those lines. New York and Company - they really should pay me every time I reference them - always has some kind of a pencil skirt or similar knee-length skirt and they tend to be pretty affordable too.
My suggestion, if you are tall and the skirt tends to air on the slightly shorter side (we are talking like just a hair too much above the 'above the knee' zone), then wear a pair of dark, thicker tights and boots so less leg is exposed. And it helps to not cross your legs when sitting...another thing I have become more adamant about after witnessing mini wardrobe-malfunctions in my school...
Enjoy! :)

Spring!
With all the snow, my mind has drifted to wishing spring was here....soooo I decided to look up some spring trends that will be coming back and found this article: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1385952/spring_2009_fashion_trends_for_womens.html
Fortunately for us, the button down shirts, polos, and layers of fabric lend themselves easily to modest dress :)
I tend to look in American Eagle or Gap for polo shirts and New York and Company for button down shirts, though in the spring, every store should have some nice ones. Pairing it with a cute lace cami and cuffing up the sleeves is adorable, functional, and springy :)

Skirts!
I've been looking for some cute year-round skirts as I've seen it's hard for me to make the transition from winter to spring without always wearing the same-old same-old. Just found this website and I think they have some cute skirts such as this one:
http://www.funkyfrum.com/product_p/jj523-tc.htm
I really like the ribbon across the waist and the color gray is neutral enough that I think it could be paired with just about any color.
Also loved this one! http://www.funkyfrum.com/product_p/jj502-3ir.htm Reminded me of a skirt Mary Tyler Moore would wear a day in the newsroom :)
Have fun looking through these adorable-retro-knee length skirts!

New Year!
Sorry I haven't been able to update in a while! But now that the college apps are done I should have time :)
Hope you all had a fantastic New Year and start to the school year!
Found this website on the side of Facebook's suggested 'likes' and so I checked it out and they have some pretty cool, indie stuff :)
http://www.modcloth.com/store/ModCloth/Womens/Tops
I especially loved some of their dresses like this vintage one: (some may be sleeveless, however, with a cardigan, problem solved!)
http://www.modcloth.com/store/ModCloth/Womens/Dresses/Craft+Market+Maven+Dress
Only problem is, since the clothing looks one-of-a-kind, I think they are around $$$ with cost. (Esther and I have forgotten to rank according to price before, so now we're starting)
Enjoy!

Christmas Parties!
With all the Christmas and New Year's parties coming up, we decided to post some websites that had great 'cocktail' (don't worry, not literally cocktail) dresses for gatherings or photos or just for fun :)
http://www.downeastbasics.com/classycuratordress.aspx
This is a new website I found, I love love love this dress! The Jackie look is definitely one of my go-tos :)
http://www.jenclothing.com/mi-4004-black-front-pleats.html
Don't that I'd necessarily call it an "Audrey", but it is still cute:

Cardigans!
An easy way, we've found, to make a sleeveless shirt modest and add a classy or unique (or both...) touch to a look is by using cardigans. They are great to have year round whether with denim shorts or long jeans and a scarf in winter!
Bright colors are great for spring, however, the richer, saturated colors tend to be best for winter.

Neutral colors like this one are great any time :)

For something a little different, we thought this

(if you haven't noticed, I'm a big fan of ruffles :) )
Both websites have great cardigans (Forever 21 may not have modest outfits, but cardigans, you can't really mess up)
Enjoy!

First outfit!
So we'll be trying to post outfit ideas every once in a while where we'll put together an ensemble with things from various stores - actual stores that you can go to in person and not have to worry about shipping/handling. This first one is a quicky: a cute black three-quarter length shirt from NY&C with a basic easy-to-match-with necklace also from NY&C. The purse is a fun accent with the bold flowers and, sadly, has to be ordered online, but from one of our favorits: Downeast! :)
Year-round outfit, summer/spring: pair with jean shorts or capris; winter/fall: long jeans/khakis and a fun colored cardigan :)
